The fall in New York was cool. Breezes blew up and down the short streets and the longer avenues. It was a special time for sunsets, the sky turning luminous shades of pale pink and aqua. As she left work each night, Helen looked far down the avenues that ran west to the Hudson. She would see a rectangle of sky between the tall brick buildings. Sometimes she would stop and watch as the rectangle turned silvery pink or blue and the clouds above the Hudson River lit up with glorious colors. Helen had found her new home. She knew that she would never want to live anywhere but New York.
